Minecraft 26.4-snapshot-1

26.4 Snapshot 1

Tuesday, September 22, 2026

The first snapshot toward Minecraft 26.4, September 22, 2026: Vulkan by default, Sulfur Caves under old worlds and new handshake properties for servers.

26.4 Snapshot 1 came out on Tuesday September 22, 2026, one week after 26.3. It opens the development cycle toward 26.4 and is mostly technical.

The biggest change is that the Default graphics setting now prefers Vulkan, which 26.2 had added as an experiment. The game also stops switching the graphics API by itself after a crash at startup. On the world side, worlds upgraded from before Caves and Cliffs now get Sulfur Caves under their old chunks, and red and brown mushrooms can be placed on any solid block in any light.

For servers and proxies, the address a player connects with can now carry extra properties after a question mark, an address written as id@host passes that id along, and a new server property, allowed-connection-ids, lets a server accept only connections with a matching id. The client also sends an empty mod list packet that modding platforms can fill in to make debugging easier.

Data packs moved to version 122 and resource packs to version 98. As with every snapshot, open it only on a copy of a world, and keep a live server on 26.3.
