The second 1.21.6 snapshot, April 15, 2025: reworked leads, mob-to-mob leashing, shears that cut leads, happy ghasts towing boats, and clouds out to the horizon.
25w16a came out on April 15, 2025, as the second 1.21.6 snapshot, and most of it is about leads. They are drawn twice as thick now, matching Bedrock Edition, and the leash physics were rewritten so a connection stays stable even when the mob on the other end is off the ground. Mobs being dragged turn to face whoever is pulling them.
You can now tie mobs to each other. Hold a group of leashed mobs, sneak and interact with another mob, and they all get attached to it. Shears cut a mob loose and use durability doing it, and a dispenser holding shears does the same to whatever is in front of it. A happy ghast can tow a boat, or a horse, donkey, mule, camel or sniffer, on a special four-lead connection. Leads now snap at 12 blocks instead of 10.
Leashing a mob that is already tied to something moves the lead over to you, but you can't take a mob from another player. Fences and leash knots work differently too: interacting with one ties your leashed mobs to it, and if there is nothing to attach, you take its mobs instead. A firework rocket used while gliding now only boosts you, even when you aim at a block, and using one while flying with leashed mobs breaks their leads.
Away from leads, clouds now reach all the way to the horizon, and block model rotations are no longer limited to steps of 22.5 degrees. Every core shader uniform became a uniform block, which matters for any resource pack with custom shaders. Data pack format 73, resource pack format 57, 45 bugs fixed.
