Minecraft 1.21-pre1
1.21 Pre-Release 1
Wednesday, May 29, 2024
The first 1.21 pre-release, May 29, 2024: ender pearls and ridden mobs go through portals, the mace and Wind Burst changed, and Fire Aspect stopped lighting blocks.
1.21 Pre-Release 1 came out on May 29, 2024. Pre-releases are mostly about fixing bugs, and this one fixed 77, but it also changed how portals work. An ender pearl thrown through a portal can now take you into the other dimension. You can ride a mob or vehicle through a portal as well, with no teleport delay while you ride. The entitiesWithPassengersCanUsePortals game rule added in 24w21a was removed, because that behavior became the default.
A few balance changes came with it. The mace's attack speed was set to 0.6. Wind Burst now throws you 7 extra blocks upward per level, which adds up to 21 blocks at level III. Boats can be put on a lead. Fire Aspect no longer sets blocks on fire; Mojang took that part out to rework it and planned to bring it back in a later release.
Two changes stop items from being lost. When the obsidian platform in the End regenerates for a player arriving through the portal, the blocks in its space now break as if a player mined them, so they drop as items and containers spill their contents. Mobs that disappear when a trial spawner turns ominous now drop whatever they had picked up. The data pack format moved to 46.
Three more pre-releases followed on May 31, June 5 and June 7. 1.21 Release Candidate 1 arrived on June 10, and Minecraft 1.21 Tricky Trials was released on June 13, 2024.
