1.21 Release Candidate 1

Monday, June 10, 2024

The only release candidate for 1.21 Tricky Trials, June 10, 2024. It reverted the 1.21-pre4 changes to Fire Protection and Blast Protection and fixed three bugs.

1.21 Release Candidate 1 was released on June 10, 2024, as the first and only release candidate for Tricky Trials. The full update followed three days later, on June 13. A release candidate is the build Mojang intends to ship unless a serious problem turns up, so its changelog is short.

Its one gameplay change undid part of 1.21-pre4. That pre-release had changed how much Fire Protection shortens burning time and how much knockback resistance Blast Protection gives. RC1 put both back to their 1.20.6 values with one difference that stayed: the effects still add up when you wear several pieces with the same enchantment. Both enchantments were expected to get a proper rebalance later.

It also fixed three bugs. Zooming with Riptide still triggered Wind Burst when a mace was in your main hand. Projectiles shot from a vehicle you had boarded while moving flew off with the wrong motion. And animals could keep floating after getting into a boat.

Everything else that shipped in the update, from trial chambers to the breeze and the mace, is on the Minecraft 1.21 Tricky Trials page.
