1.21.5 Snapshot

Wednesday, February 26, 2025

The eighth 1.21.5 snapshot, February 26, 2025: fallen trees in oak, spruce, birch and jungle, firefly bushes in more biomes, and mixed lists in /data.

25w09a came out on February 26, 2025, as the eighth 1.21.5 snapshot, and it brought fallen trees to Java Edition, which Bedrock Edition already had. They are purely decorative logs lying on the ground, sometimes with mushrooms or vines growing on them. They come in oak, spruce, birch and jungle, and birch has both a short and a long version.

Fallen trees generate in every biome where their standing tree grows, with a few exceptions: meadows, bamboo jungles, rivers, groves and flower forests. Flower forests still get fallen birch trees, just no fallen oaks.

Firefly bushes can now generate near water in mangrove swamps and, very rarely, in badlands. Dead bushes can be placed on farmland, leaf litter gets replaced when you place a block in its space, and short and tall dry grass sit at a random offset in their block, so a field of it doesn't line up in a grid.

/data can now create and edit lists that mix different value types, something SNBT had started accepting in 25w04a. 25w09a fixed 19 bugs but shipped with rendering bugs and crashes of its own, so Mojang released 25w09b the next day to fix them.
